Driven Pheasant Shoots at Canyon Ranch

Canyon Ranch offers quality driven shoots for the Canyon Ranch Gun Club. They feature a unique mixture of upland game birds, including wild and released pheasants, partridges and native grouse. The areas of best bird cover and habitat are the sites of our drives. Typically these areas are riparian areas with dense growth of cottonwoods, hawthorns, wild plum, aspen, wild grasses and other native bushes. On occasion, there are some agricultural plantings of grain or corn that are driven.

Unlike most European shooting our birds are driven by dogs and their handlers, not beaters. The flushed birds then follow the natural terrain and fly over the standing guns providing them with challenging shots at high, fast, incoming and crossing birds.

Canyon Ranch prides itself on producing strong healthy birds for the finest quality shooting in North America. Each year 6800 pheasant and 200 Hungarian and chukker partridges are released during the season. There are also wild populations of pheasant, Hungarian partridges and sharp-tail grouse on the Canyon Ranch property. Our phesants are released well in advance of being shot over to locate them in the wild. These are not "put and take" birds. Once the birds are released. Canyon Ranch staff scatter feed in areas of prime cover. This tends to hold the birds in specific areas as well as keep them strong for survival in the wild.
